Pastor John Luther grew up in Woodburn, Oregon.  He Attended Concordia, Portland and then attended Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, Missouri.  In 1984-1985 John did Clinical Pastoral Education at Good Samaritan Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona. He did his vicarage at Zion Lutheran Church and School in Litchfield, Illinois graduating with a Master of Divinity from St. Louis Seminary in 1988.

It was in Litchfield, Illinois where he met his future wife, Arla Mae, and they were married in Litchfield on June 12, 1987.

Pastor Luther’s first call sent him and his family to Trinity Lutheran Church in Waltham, Minnesota.  He was ordained and installed there on July 10, 1988.  After serving in Minnesota for 10 years, he accepted a call to Hope Lutheran Church, Springfield, Oregon and was installed there on September 13, 1988.   Pastor Luther served Hope for 20 years, celebrating 30th year in the ministry serving his Lord and Savior with the wonderful people of Hope.

Besides serving in the parish, Pastor Luther has also served as vacancy Pastor to several congregations both in Minnesota and in Oregon, was in the 2002 class of the Pastoral Leadership Institute, took mission trips to India in 2004 and China in 2006, and before leaving Hope was in his fourth term as Circuit Visitor.

God has blessed Pastor Luther with a loving and supportive wife, Arla Mae; 4 wonderful children, Christopher of Worthington, MN; Eric of Rochester, MN; Douglas of Smyrna, TN; and Brandalyn of Springfield, OR.  He and his wife also have 12 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.

Pastor Luther and Arla Mae are happy and excited to begin the journey of serving God here with the people of Faith and the community of Lacey.
